Alright, buckle up – we’re in the wild 1920s, right in the middle of Prohibition. Thugtown is the setting, and you’re Vinnie Cannoli, a highly professional hitman with style and a good dose of firepower in your gun. And it’s not just about the Mafia – there are zombies too. Yep, you heard that right. And it all looks fantastic: hand-drawn 2D graphics, fully dynamic, paired with cinematic cutscenes. Really atmospheric, 1920s vibes with speakeasies, old-timey checkpoints, and a soundtrack perfectly made for the era.

Shooting Style, Genre Mix & Gameplay – Here’s How It Blasts

This game is a classic side-scrolling shooter – totally old school, but in a good way. Think Metal Slug, but with the Mafia, blood, and a pinch of dark humor. Local couch co-op for up to 4 players? – Oh yeah, baby!

You’ll blast zombies, gangsters, soldiers – anything that gets in your way. The enemies are varied enough to give you a little puzzle every now and then. And by the way, the environment is destructible: explosive barrels, cars – basically everything you can blow up like in a Hollywood blockbuster.

A colorful army of zombies that just won’t leave you alone – the gameplay may be simple, but it’s super entertaining. Plus, it’s a small indie gem with character and surprisingly satisfying gameplay – short, but seriously fun for little money.

Difficulty, Weapon Switching & the Right Vibe

Watch out, the bosses are no walk in the park. Some boss fights are seriously tough – but that’s part of the fun factor. As one player put it: “The game is hard, especially some boss fights, but I think it’s what makes it fun as well.”

At first, you just start blasting – but the further you get, the more you have to think: Which weapon should I use? Pistol, shotgun, flamethrower – there’s quite a bit in your arsenal. There are plenty of checkpoints so you won’t completely lose your mind.

A small downside: weapon switching on a controller can be a bit clunky at times. With keyboard and mouse, it runs more smoothly – pretty typical for shooters. Still, for a short, fun action run, it’s totally fine.

    Impressions from Players and Critics

On Steam, the game really shines: 92% of all reviews are Very Positive! And in the last 30 days, it’s been 96%.

Critics describe it as “great, if not short romp. The art style pops and the gameplay is smooth.” – sounds like a lot of fun, right? (OpenCritic).

In community forums öole Reddit, it’s also celebrated: “It’s a lot of fun and good for pickup co-op due to its relative simplicity.” – “Yes, it’s an absolute blast and pleasant surprise.”

Some say it’s a bit predictable as a side-scrolling shooter, but it’s graphically solid, with decent boss fights and a coherent overall package (Switch Player).

Guns, Gore & Cannoli: Who Is This Game For?

In short: if you’re up for a fast, stylish 2D shooter with a Mafia-zombie mix, cool illustrations, wicked humor, and local shared fun for up to four people – this is exactly your thing. The game is short, yes – but intense, charming, and just plain fun. Perfect if you’re looking for something small and snappy instead of a 100-hour epic saga.

My rating: 4.3 out of 5 Stars

    • Graphics & Atmosphere: (Hand-drawn, 1920s vibe) – 5
    • Gameplay & Weapons: (Snappy, but sometimes clunky on controller) – 4
    • Difficulty Curve: (Fun, but boss fights are a real challenge) – 4
    • Fun Factor & Co-op: (Mega local co-op, huge fun factor) – 5
    • Length & Replay Value: (Rather short, but replay-worthy) – 4

Final Score: 4.3 out of 5 stars – because it’s simply a fantastic little gem that’s as cheeky as it is charming. Give it a try, grab yourself a few cannoli, and go to town on those zombies! And if you enjoyed my review, feel free to leave me your feedback in the comments.
