For years, fans of the Dragon Ball franchise have been asking the same big question: Will there be a Xenoverse 3? Since the release of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 in 2016, the game has remained incredibly popular thanks to constant updates, DLC packs, and an active player base. Even so, many players feel it’s time for a true sequel rather than more expansions for an aging title.

So what is the current status of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3? Is it officially in development, or are fans still waiting in uncertainty? Let’s take a closer look at everything we know so far.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3: What We Know

As of now, there is no official confirmation that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is in active development. Bandai Namco and Dimps, the studio behind the series, have not announced a sequel publicly. However, that hasn’t stopped speculation, leaks, and fan theories from spreading across the internet.

The Xenoverse series is one of the most successful Dragon Ball game franchises ever made. The second installment sold millions of copies worldwide and continues to receive new content years after launch. From additional story arcs to new characters like Ultra Instinct Goku and Beast Gohan, Xenoverse 2 still feels alive in 2025.

This ongoing support is one of the biggest hints that the franchise remains valuable to Bandai Namco. A sequel would make sense from both a financial and creative standpoint, especially with modern consoles offering more power for better visuals, smoother combat, and larger open areas.

Fans expect Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 to improve on several aspects of the previous games, including a deeper and more immersive story mode, more detailed character customization, better online matchmaking and multiplayer stability, expanded open-world hubs beyond Conton City, new transformations and techniques from Dragon Ball Super and beyond, and improved graphics using current-gen hardware.

There is also hope that Xenoverse 3 could introduce brand-new gameplay mechanics, such as larger-scale battles, destructible environments, or even branching timelines that react more dynamically to player choices.

Although leaks and rumors appear from time to time, none have been officially verified. For now, Xenoverse 3 remains unconfirmed but not unlikely.

Why is the Sequel Not Coming?

One of the biggest reasons Xenoverse 3 hasn’t been announced yet is surprisingly simple: Xenoverse 2 is still making money.

Instead of moving on to a sequel, Bandai Namco has continued to release DLC packs that expand the game’s lifespan. From a business perspective, it makes sense to keep monetizing an already successful product rather than investing heavily in a brand-new title.

Another factor could be development priorities. Bandai Namco has released other Dragon Ball games in recent years, including Dragon Ball FighterZ, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and upcoming projects. These titles may have taken priority over a Xenoverse sequel.

There is also the challenge of expectations. Fans don’t just want Xenoverse 2 again, they want a meaningful upgrade. A true Xenoverse 3 would need to feel like a major leap forward, not just a minor improvement. That requires time, resources, and a clear vision for innovation.

Additionally, anime and manga timelines may influence development. With new arcs, transformations, and characters still being introduced in the Dragon Ball universe, developers might be waiting for the right moment to include fresh content that makes a sequel feel exciting and up to date.

In short, Xenoverse 3 may not be delayed because it’s impossible, it might simply be waiting for the right timing.

    Will Xenoverse 3 Ever Happen?

While there is no official announcement yet, most signs suggest that Xenoverse 3 is more a matter of when than if.

The franchise remains popular, demand from fans is strong, and the Dragon Ball brand continues to grow worldwide. It would be surprising if Bandai Namco never returned to one of its most profitable Dragon Ball game series.

A likely scenario is that Xenoverse 3 will be announced once Xenoverse 2’s DLC cycle finally slows down or ends. If that happens, the sequel could arrive with major upgrades, modern graphics, and a refreshed take on time travel storytelling.
